Check your Body Mass Index (BMI)
BMI is determined by your weight in kg divided by your
(height in metres)2.  It is designed for men and women over the age of 18.

A healthy BMI is between 20 and 25. A result below 20 indicates that you may be underweight; a figure between 25 and 30 indicates that you may be overweight and a figure above 30 indicates that you may be obese.

Being overweight puts you at an infinitely greater risk of a range of health problems like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, gout, gallstones, arthritis, sleep apnoea and reproductive abnormalities. Apart from these issues you can become tired and cranky, develop emotional and psychological problems and become depressed. Unfortunately our society is also starting to discriminate quite heavily against overweight and obese people, which only increases the need to get healthy.

Did you know that 19 out of 20 dieters will regain at least their lost weight again? It’s clear that the food component is only half of the equation when trying to lose weight long term.

We suggest you find a weight loss program that complies with the following checklist:

  1. Does it include exercise that involves fitness, strength and flexibility training?

  2. Is it based on Australian Government dietary recommendations?

  3. Does it include low GI carbohydrates?

  4. Does it include an acceptable protein intake
    (0.8 – 1.2g p/kg of body weight per day)?

  5. Does it limit saturated and trans fat intake?

  6. Are the suggested foods socially acceptable to family and friends?

  7. Are the suggested foods available at the local supermarket?

  8. Does it suggest a maximum of only 1 or 2 meal replacements per day?

  9. Is it achievable for the rest of your life?

  10. Are you directly supported by qualified health and fitness professionals?
